I recently read an article titled, 40 Tips for Staying Sober Under Pressure. I’m sure you can google it. It’s right there, with other articles on the 11 Tips, 7 Tips, and 21 Tips articles.
But let’s cut to the chase. I will give you the #1 way to stay sober. It works every time.
Want it.
Did you catch that? “Want it.” Be desperate. Stay hungry. Go all in. The most important thing you can do to stay sober is to want it. Really want it.
One of my truisms of recovery is this: If you are 90% in, you’re 100% out.
Before you see a therapist, join a group, or work the 12 Steps, you’ve got to want sobriety. You’ve got to want it desperately, passionately, wholeheartedly.
Recovery Step: Let recovery consume your imagination, your heart, your passion. “Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you” (Proverbs 4:25). You can be sober. You can stay sober. If you really want it.
