Oleg Kharitonov set a new world record when he ran 100 miles in 11:28:03. I’m not sure I could drive 100 miles that fast. Quite impressive.
The next time you run a marathon, remember Oleg, who essentially ran four marathons without a break. I say it again – quite impressive.
Oleg is clearly a gifted athlete. But there’s one thing he is not – a sprinter. If he had been a world-class sprinter instead of a distance runner, I wouldn’t be writing about him. That’s because recovery is a distance run, not a sprint.
Nothing matters more to recovery than perseverance. Napoleon said, “The first virtue in a soldier is endurance.” And the Bible says, “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us” (Hebrews 12:1).
Recovery Step: Do recovery for distance, not speed.
