We are living on a planet that is speeding through space at nearly 67,000 miles per hour. So even on a bad day, a day when you don’t get much done, you did travel 1.6 million miles through space. So there’s that.
A study by Duke University found that on average, 45 percent of our behavior is automatic. It’s called the anchoring effect. We anchor our behaviors to that which comes easily. That’s why you travel 67,000 miles per hour so effortlessly.
But not all of the patterns of the universe are good. Paul warned, “Do not be conformed to the patterns of this world” (Romans 12:2). In other words, be mindful of the habits you create.
Recovery Step: Take time to slow down, evaluate your lifestyle, and ask this question – Am I conforming to the image of Christ or to the patterns of this world?
