Sometimes, you need to listen to the advice of others, figure out what makes sense, and then do something else.
Good advice is not always the best advice. Sometimes, God leads us to do things that others don’t understand. That’s why we need the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised, “The Holy Spirit will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you” (John 14:26).
I love the words of Henry David Thoreau. “If I seem to walk out of step with others, it is because I am listening to another drumbeat.”
Which drumbeat are you listening to? Because we are all wired a little differently, we all need a different drumbeat. We need to be sensitive to the voice of God, but to do that means drawing close enough to hear him when he speaks.
Recovery Step: Think about an area in your recovery that can use some help. Seek help from others, but give God the final word.
