Addicts are universally superior in one way. We are world class liars. Of course, we don’t consider it lying. We stretch things a bit, exaggerate occasionally, and shade the truth a bit.
Mark Twain’s words resonate with many of us. “Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.”
To all addicts I offer this suggestion – Be honest, totally, completely, 100% of the time.
It’s about rebuilding trust. It’s about making our spouses feel safe. It’s about personal integrity.
May David’s prayer be our prayer: “Deliver me, O Lord, from a deceitful tongue” (Psalm 120:2).
Recovery Step: Be a person of honesty. Completely. No more excuses.
