As of 1961, there is one place on Earth where you can go to escape all political strife. There are no international conflicts there. It is a place of peace and tranquility, absent the turmoil found across the rest of the globe. Further, it is a haven of nature, virtually untouched by pollution or disease. Where is this wonderful place?
Antarctica.
On this date in 1961, three countries adopted the Antarctica Treaty – The United States, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union. Prior to that date, all three nations had laid various claims to the frozen continent. Now, it is a place of independence, open to all.
Absent a private jet, or ocean liner, you may have a hard time getting to Antarctica quickly. If you can’t make it there, get somewhere. Find a place of solitude and nature where you can be with God.
Recovery Step: Before Jesus selected his twelve apostles, he did something else first. It is a great lesson for us all. “In those days Jesus went out to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God” (Luke 6:12).
