In our addiction, we get everything backwards.
Randy Alcorn writes, “God created us to love people and use things, but materialists love things and use people.”
Every addict I know has done the same thing. We use things – and people – to address every pleasure. If someone gets hurt in the process, well, that’s just collateral damage. But when we turn to God and recovery, the switch flips. Everything turns 180 degrees in the other direction. We use things to love people.
Paul said, “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you” (Ephesians 4:32).
Recovery Step: From this verse, we unpack a simple three-step recovery plan.
- Be kind.
- Be tenderhearted.
- Forgive others.
