Have you every seen a magician pull a rabbit out of thin air? Or out of a hat? Let me give you some inside information. The rabbit was already there. When the magician distracted you, he was able to grab the rabbit from behind the table and trick you into thinking the rabbit must have mysteriously appeared.
Likewise, in recovery you begin to deal with things like hidden trauma. And like the rabbit, it may appear that your trauma just appeared out of nowhere. But just because you didn’t see your trauma – perhaps for years – that doesn’t mean it is not there.
The Old Testament says, “God reveals deep and hidden things” (Daniel 2:22).
It is likely that you have a few “deep and hidden things” that need to be brought to light. For that, you may want to see a trauma specialist.
Recovery Step: There’s really no such things as “pulling a rabbit out of the hat.” The rabbit was there all along. You just didn’t see him. So what are you hiding? What “deep and hidden things” are you hanging onto that need to be brought into the light?
