Christopher Heimerman is a writer for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He checked all the boxes:
- Husband
- Father of two
- Active in his church
- Runner of five marathons
- Celebrated journalist
But there was another side to Heimerman’s life. In his own words, “Hours after church, I was often funneling beer or whiskey in the quiet, dark corners of our house. Yet another domino tipped. Another week of drinking every day was officially underway.”
Eventually, Christopher found recovery, after he reconnected with God. What came next was hours of therapy, AA meetings, confessing his struggle, and going public with his recovery. For Christopher Heimerman to find lasting recovery, he had to come out of the darkness.
And that is the promise of God: “The darkness is passing” (1 John 2:8).
Recovery Step: In order to walk in the light, you must come out of the darkness.
