Violet Jessop was the ultimate survivor.
Jessop was a stewardess aboard the RMS Olympic, one of the Titanic’s sister ships. In 1911, the Olympic crashed into another ship. Violet Jessop survived. Six months later, she was a stewardess on Titanic. While the ship went under, Violet was saved. A few years later, she served aboard the Britannic. An unexplained explosion claimed most of the lives of those on board. Again, Violet Jessop was spared.
Violet Jessop missed three excellent opportunities to meet her Maker. We are naturally fascinated by such amazing stories of survival.
But if you think about it, you have a pretty good survival story yourself. At least three times, it could have been you in the automobile crash. It could have been you who had cancer. You could have been the one hit by the drunk driver, natural disaster, or random accident.
You could have died because of your addiction. At the very least, your story could have ended in tragedy. But here you are, doing recovery work. You are still in the fight. The victory is within reach. You are a survivor.
Recovery Step: Say this with me – “I am persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8).
