Physicist Michio Kaku said of his own profession, “Physicists are made of atoms. A physicist is an attempt by an atom to understand itself.”
For centuries, men have been trying to understand themselves. And often, they turn to science for those answers. And when they look hard enough, they usually find the Creator waiting at the end of their search.
The Bible says, “He [Christ] is before all things, and by him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:17).
There is a science to addiction and the creation of man. The National Institute on Drug Abuse has identified three part of the brain that are all affected by addiction.
- The brain stem: This controls basic bodily functions, including breathing, sleeping, and heart rate.
- The cerebral cortex: This controls executive functions, such as decision-making, planning, and sensory information processing.
- The limbic system: This is the body’s emotional reward circuitry and controls our ability to experience pleasure and motivation for survival sustaining activities, which is activated by drugs of abuse.
Recovery Step: Your addiction affects your brain – the way you think, process data, and regulate emotions. That is scary. The answer? Break free of addiction at any cost.
