Here’s something you don’t think about when you become a follower of Christ: “As they followed him they were afraid” (Mark 10:32).
It’s what Oswald Chambers called “the discipline of dismay.”
Charles Stanley wrote, “Those who have never trembled from head to toe will never know God’s perfect love.”
I suggest we do two things:
- Take ourselves less seriously.
- Take God more seriously.
To fear God means to recognize him as the omniscient, omnipresent King of kings and Lord of lords. It is a matter of reverence. To follow Christ is not easy or for the faint of heart. But it is worth it – every step of the way.
Recovery Step: The only thing more scary than following Christ is to not follow Christ.
