When I was in college, one of the greatest movies of all time came out – Airplane. There was a particular line in the movie that has stuck with me. “Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.”
The audience roared with every corny line of Airplane. But the “sniffing glue” line speaks to any addiction. It is a common feeling. There are some days that are better than others to quit our addictions. The premise is that we don’t usually need the habit, but it’s a good thing to hang onto, just in case.
No, there is never a good day to hold onto your addiction. The best day to begin your journey of freedom is today. The Bible says, “This is the day the Lord has made” (Psalm 118:24). It doesn’t say, “Tomorrow is the day the Lord has made.” You’ve got one shot at this – today.
Recovery Step: Take your first step into freedom today. Not tomorrow, next week, or when you feel like it. Today.
