“In real life, there is no such thing as algebra.”
– Fran Lebowitz
When he got on me to raise my math grade, I asked my dad, “When will I use algebra?” I don’t recall getting a coherent response.
But there is an answer to that question. You will use algebra if you become an algebra teacher.
From my experience, algebra should be moved from the mathematics department to foreign languages. Both require a translator.
Too many people treat recovery the same way. “When will I really need the 12 Steps? How can attending weekly meetings help keep me sober? Why do I need a sponsor?”
I can’t explain a quadratic equation, but I know it works. And I can’t always explain the magic of the 12 Steps, but I know they work.
Recovery Step: Jesus said to exercise our “little faith” (Matthew 17:20). Do what works, whether you can understand it or not.
