On the next clear night, look for Antares. It will be the 15th brightest star in the sky. You will find it in the Scorpius constellation. Now, 15th brightest may not sound too bright – until you consider Antares is a whopping 550 light years away. (That means that what you see when you look at Antares tonight actually happened in 1672, or 550 years ago.)
How big is Antares? Our sun is 109 times bigger than Earth, and Antares is 850 times bigger than our sun. That makes Antares 92,650 times bigger than Earth.
The next time you think your addiction, habit, abuse, trauma, or other pain is too much for God, remember how big your God really is. The God who made a star that is 92,650 times bigger than our planet, put it a zillion miles away, but bright enough for us to see it . . . well, that is a God who is big enough to handle anything that comes your way.
Recovery Step: The Bible declares, “The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable” (Isaiah 40:28). Translation: your problem is big. But God is bigger.
