Mark and Beth Denison, married for 36 years, launched There’s Still Hope as a national movement to call men and women into lives of sexual integrity. Their ministry offers 90-day recovery plans for addicts and one-on-one and group coaching for addicts and their spouses. TSH also produces resources for pastors and churches to confront the porn epidemic that is destroying so many lives.
Dr. Denison was a senior pastor for over 30 years, NBA chaplain, and board chairman at Houston Baptist University three times. With a Master’s Degree in Addiction Recovery, Mark is a certified PSAP and active member of the American Association of Christian Counselors.
Mark has written four books on recovery: Porn in the Pew, 365 Days to Sexual Integrity, A 90-Day Recovery Guide, and 40 Days to Porn-Free Living. His latest book, Jesus on the 12 Steps, will be released later this year.
Don’t focus so much on recovery. Huh? I meant what I just said – don’t focus so much on recovery. Instead, focus on the things you must do that result in recovery. Here’s why. Who you are tomorrow is the predictable outcome of the things you do today. Charles Stanley was right: “Where you are…
Trying to hurt me by bringing up my past is like trying to rob my old house. I don’t live there anymore. Seneca said, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” Carrie Underwood adds, “Every day is a new day, and you’ll never be able to find happiness if you don’t move on.”…
Never let an experience with God come before God himself. Don’t live for the exceptional moments. These unusual touches of glory are surprises, which God only brings our way when he sees that we are no longer in danger of being led away by them. The extravagant can lead to complacency and self-assurance. Oswald Chambers…
A boy stood on the baseball field and proclaimed, “I am the greatest hitter of all time!” He then tossed a ball into the air and took a huge swing. He missed. Strike one. He repeated, “I am the greatest hitter of all time!” Again, he tossed the ball into the air, swung, and missed. …
I love this simple promise from God: “I will give your life to you as a prize in all places, wherever you go” (Jeremiah 45:5). It is when we abandon our own plans and dreams for God’s plans and dreams that we find glorious freedom. Abandonment means to refuse yourself the luxury of asking any…
The prophet asked, “Do you seek great things for yourself?” (Jeremiah 45:5). I suspect all of us would answer this question with a resounding “yes.” But true happiness does not come from seeking things. It comes from seeking God. Oswald Chambers said, “There is nothing easier than getting into the right relationship with God, unless…
The record for sobriety is 24 hours. Sobriety is attained one day at a time. That means you have the opportunity in front of you to tie the all-time record for sobriety. You can do it today. Is it long term sobriety that you want? Well, let me share a little secret with you. The…
A friend in recovery recently told me, “I thought I hit rock bottom, but it was the Rock of Ages.” For many of us, it was when we hit bottom that we found God. James said it like this: “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you” (James 4:10). No matter how deep…
Two politicians had locked themselves out of their car, with important papers inside. They needed those papers for a meeting, which was to start in a few minutes. One said, “Let’s open the door lock with a coat hanger.” The other replied, “We can’t do that; it will look like we are breaking into someone’s…
One of my favorite singing groups was The Carpenters, whose easy listening style filled the air waves at a time when heavy rock ‘n roll was taking over the world of music. Their signature song sat atop the charts for seven straight weeks in 1970. Karen and Richard Carpenter are still singing it in my…
