A college freshman was struggling to keep up with his classwork assignments. When his parents came to visit him, they asked him what the problem was.
He said, “The guys in the apartment above me keep their TV up too loud. I can’t concentrate.”
His parents asked, “What do you do when they get too loud?”
College student: “I just go back to playing my bagpipes.”
That’s how a lot of us think. We don’t notice our own problems because we focus on the weaknesses of others. Jesus has a better plan: “First cast out the beam out of your own eye; and then you can see clearly to cast out the speck from your brother’s eye” (Matthew 7:5).
Recovery Step: You must take ownership of your disease if you are to take responsibility for your recovery.
