A park ranger found a man in the woods, chewing on a cooked bald eagle. “You know that bird is an endangered species, don’t you? I’m going to have to bring you in.”
The ranger brought the man to court, where the man pleaded for forgiveness. “Your honor, I was starving, and lost in the woods. I promise, that was the only time I’ve ever killed a bird that was on the endangered species list.”
The judge granted him leniency and let him go.
“Before you leave my court, I have a question. What does a bald eagle taste like?”
The man replied, “Well, it tastes like a cross between a whooping crane and a spotted owl.”
What was true for the hunter is also true for each of us. Our sin will find us out.
Recovery Step: The Bible describes us as being “darkened in our understanding” (Ephesians 4:18). The answer is to come clean, embrace honesty, and quit hiding from what we’ve done.
