Okay, baseball fans, what happened on August 9, 1925, that never happened in any other game in history?
I’ll give you a hint. The batter was Bobby Veach, of the New York Yankees. Veach compiled a lifetime batting average of .310, and from 1915 to 1922 had more RBI and extra base hits than Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, or Tris Speaker.
But it’s what he did on August 9, 1925, that made history. He was called upon to pinch hit for the great Babe Ruth. That was the only time in his 20-year career that Babe Ruth was pulled for a pinch hitter.
But even Babe Ruth can have a bad day. The fact is, we all need to tap out from time to time. We need someone else to pinch hit for us.
Galatians 6:2 reads, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
