There have been some pretty remarkable inventions that have changed the world through the years. That list includes:
- Internet
- Smartphones
- Wheel
- Printing press
- Penicillin
- Compass
- Light bulb
And the battery. Don’t forget the battery.
The first battery dates back to 1800, when Italian physicist Alessandro Volta wrapped a stack of copper and zinc discs in a cloth, submerged it in salty water and discovered that it conducted energy. From that meager beginning, the battery has grown into one of the most important inventions of all time.
The interesting thing about the battery is that you can’t tell if it is in its intended object until that object needs the power that the battery can supply. That is a lot like the Holy Spirit. You can’t always recognize which person is filled with the Spirit, versus someone who isn’t – until you see the results of a Spirit-empowered life.
Recovery Step: You need the power of the Holy Spirit to live a sober life. That power is available today (Acts 1:8).
