There were two prophets to Nineveh – Jonah and Nahum. We all know about Jonah, but no one remembers Nahum. Let me help you. His message was succinct. Six words.
Nahum 1:15 “The wicked will be completely destroyed.”
Not partially destroyed. Completely destroyed.
In warfare, nations employ any of 55 offensive strategies in an effort to defeat the enemy. For example, attrition warfare has been a common strategy for centuries. It is a strategy of wearing down the enemy to the point of collapse.
But God uses what military experts refer to as a “battle of annihilation,” where the goal is to destroy the enemy’s entire military in a single planned pivotal attack. That was the kind of attack Nahum correctly predicted. And that is the kind of war that God presses against our sins.
Complete destruction.
