On this date in 1964, The Beatles landed their first #1 hit on the Billboard list. Written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, I Want to Hold Your Hand sold 12 million copies, more than any other song from the Beatles’ incredible run.
The opening lyrics are as follows.
Oh yeah, I’ll tell you somethin’
I think you’ll understand.
When I say that somethin’
I want to hold your hand.
I want to hold your hand.
I want to hold your hand.
In life – and recovery – we all need someone to hold our hand. And while that may be a sponsor, mentor, or other trusted friend, there is One who does it better than anyone else.
Recovery Step: Put your hand in the hand of the One who said, “I will be with you to the end of the world” (Matthew 28:20).
