Today’s topic – beauty.
Author Jean Kerr wrote, “I’m tired of all this nonsense about beauty being only skin deep. That’s deep enough! What do you want – an adorable pancreas?”
King Solomon praised the beauty of his wife. You can read about it in Song of Solomon, chapter 4. Solomon was smitten with his wife’s beauty on many levels:
- Her hair: “like a flock of goats” (4:1)
- Her teeth: “like a flock of shorn ewes” (4:2)
- Her lips: “like a scarlet thread” (4:3)
- Her cheeks: “like halves of a pomegranate” (4:3)
- Her neck: “like the tower of David” (4:3)
Confucius said, “Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.” That may be true of your wife (or husband). You may be missing the beauty God has put right in front of you. If Solomon – who knew a lot of women in his day – could find beauty in one woman’s goat hair, sheep teeth, and pomegranate cheekbones, you can find beauty in your spouse.
If you’re looking for it.
Recovery Step: Beauty is as deep as your spouse’s pancreas. So quit focusing on where your spouse may fall short and thank God for the beauty with which she/he has been created as a child of God. She or he may not be perfect, but I’m guessing you aren’t, either.
