Because He Lives was written by Bill and Gloria Gaither when they were expecting their first child in the late 1960s. They were going through a traumatic time, as Bill was recovering from mononucleosis and Gloria was battling anxiety issues. The thought of having a child was overwhelming to both of them.
Late one night, as Gloria was in prayer, a peace came over her. God filled her heart with calm and confidence. In response, Bill and Gloria sat down and penned the words to this uplifting hymn.
