Guys, if you think your sexual betrayal isn’t hurting anybody, read on.
Barbara Steffens reports, in “The Traumatic Nature of Disclosure for Wives of Sexual Addicts,” that a survey of 63 wives of self-identified sex addicts found that 70 percent of these women met most criteria for a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder, and 71 percent demonstrated a severe level of functional impairment in major areas of their lives.
The command, “Love your wives” (Ephesians 5:25), applies to sex addicts directly.
It has been said that the best motivation for telling others God’s plan of salvation would be for every Christian to have to spend one minute in hell.
I suppose the same might be true for sex addicts. If we had to spend one minute suffering the same pain of betrayal that we inflicted on our wives, it might change everything.
Recovery Step: If you are married, your sexual betrayal is killing your wife (or husband). You can’t erase the damage you’ve already caused. But don’t let that stop you from doing the next right thing.
