Grace is great, but it’s not enough. Truth is wonderful, but it, too, is not enough. Let me explain.
Grace minus truth is all heart and no head. Truth without grace is all head and no heart.
Grace says, “I’ll forgive you, no matter what.”
Truth says, “I’ll be honest with you, no matter what.”
Both are gifts from God. Both are necessary ingredients to lives of recovery. But by themselves, grace and truth fall short.
So what’s the answer?
Love.
Love is grace plus truth.
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).
Recovery Step: Embrace love. And truth. It’s called love.
