Did you have a great Christmas yesterday? If so, beware of relapse today.
Did you have a lousy Christmas yesterday? If so, beware of relapse today.
There are two times when you are in heightened danger of relapse – when things are going well and when things are going poorly. We see it all the time. After great moments in a client’s personal or professional life, he lets his guard down and has a relapse. And after difficult times, he has a relapse.
Why is this? Because the friend of recovery is consistency. When things are really good or really bad, we are knocked off our game. We take our eye off the prize.
King Hezekiah offered us a great example. In the face of difficult challenges, we read this: “He built a second wall of defense” (2 Chronicles 32:5).
Here’s my advice. If Christmas was especially good or especially difficult, build an extra wall of defense today. Make an extra call. Do some extra reading. Attend an extra meeting.
You’re worth it.
Recovery Step: If things are either (a) good, or (b) bad, build a second wall of defense.
