“You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”
– Jaws, 1975
Actor Rob Scheider played Brody in the movie. Citing the great shark, and contemplating what it would take to bring him in, he said, “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”
This famous movie line has become an appropriate metaphor for life. Many times, our biggest problem is not the size of our challenge, but the size of our boat.
The boat represents preparation. You don’t go fishing for great white sharks in a kayak.
And you don’t go fishing for lasting recovery on the U.S.S. Compromise. If you want lasting sobriety, prepare for it. Come to the battle with the right tools. Don’t bring a pocket knife to a gunfight.
You’re gonna need a bigger boat.
Recovery Step: “May your hearts be fully committed to the Lord our God” (1 Kings 8:61).
