“My mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” (Forrest Gump, 1994)
A good example of a “box of chocolates” occurred for me when I attended an SA meeting a couple of years ago. That night, a newcomer was present. I talked to him for a few minutes after the meeting, and today he is one of my closest friends.
The Old Testament offered its own version of a box of chocolates. “Then the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Behold, I am about to do a thing in Israel at which the two ears of everyone who hears it will tingle’” (1 Samuel 3:11).
Every day in recovery is like a box of chocolates. Some are better than others. But they’re all pretty good.
Recovery Step: Take your first step toward recovery today. What lies ahead may be a bit unknown. But it is good.
