Carpe diem is a Latin phrase that means “seize the day.”
Your task is less about planning ahead than it is living for today. I love the picture drawn by the great philosopher and author Francis Schaeffer. He said, “Life is like a clock with no hands. It’s ticking, but you never know when it’s going to strike midnight.”
Jesus warned, “About that day and hour no one knows” (Matthew 24:38).
The answer? Carpe diem. Seize the day. But how do you do this? Here are a few suggestions. Do these five things today.
- Start the day in prayer.
- Improve one area of your life by just one percent.
- Call a friend you haven’t spoken to in over a year.
- Thank your sponsor or mentor.
- Do an act of kindness for someone who cannot repay you.
Recovery Step: You have your marching orders. Get going! Carpe diem!
