There was a fourth-grade student named Tommy, whose mother gave him a box of cupcakes to take to his classmates at school. Unfortunately, Tommy had injured his leg and was on crutches. His mother asked Tommy’s older brother, a sixth grader, to carry the cupcakes for Tommy. The brother said, “I’d rather not.”
His mother saw this as a teaching moment. “What would Jesus do?” she asked her oldest son.
He said, “Jesus would heal him so he could carry his own cupcakes.”
Too many of us are like Tommy’s older brother. We are happy to rely on Jesus to fix someone’s problems, when Jesus is waiting on us to help carry their load.
The Bible says it with four simple words: “Bear one another’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2).
Recovery Step: Step up and carry someone else’s cupcakes.
