According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, one in four girls and one is six boys are sexually abused by the age of 18.
Psychologist and trauma specialist Susanne Babbel writes, “Thirty-five percent of child sexual abusers were once abused themselves.” With that, the cycle of abuse continues.
God puts a premium on children. The Bible says, “Jesus took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said, ‘Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives the one who sent me” (Mark 9:36-37).
And Jesus said, “Whoever causes one of these little ones to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matthew 18:6).
Recovery Step: I see two lessons. First, we must protect our children at all costs. Second, if you have been sexually abused, you need to get help.
