When I was a child, Easter was a fun time. Mom and Dad hid Easter eggs all over the house and yard. My brother and I filled our baskets with all kinds of calories and fat grams.
But the “prize” was the coveted chocolate Easter bunny. I begged for one every year. Mom usually gave in, and on Easter I was allowed to eat it. I started with an ear. But with the first bite came a disappointment that I remember to this day. You see, the ear was hollow. In fact, the whole Easter bunny was hollow. What looked like five pounds of pure chocolate was mostly just air. It looked great, smelled great, and always drew me in. But each bite left me wanting more.
The Easter Bunny is a picture of addiction. The lure is compelling. But what looks fulfilling always leaves us hollow. The bite never matches the look. That leaves us with two options: quit looking to the Easter bunny to fill us up, or keep eating more bunnies.
Your “Easter bunny” will never completely satisfy. You have two options – give up your hollow bunny, or keep eating more bunnies in hopes that they will eventually satisfy.
Spoiler alert – they never will.
