On May 25, 2001, Erik Weihenmayer reached the summit of Mount Everest. A year later, he completed the Seven Summits, climbing the highest peak on each of the seven continents. By doing so, he accomplished what only 150 others have ever done. But with Erik Weihenmayer, there was one difference.
Erik Weihenmayer is completely blind.
But he wasn’t done yet. Erik went on to kayak 277 miles down the treacherous Colorado River.
That is the definition of faith, “the evidence of things hoped for, and the hope of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).
Sometimes, in recovery, it feels like we are flying blind. You will be called upon to do things you never saw coming when you started this journey – things like a personal inventory, a therapeutic disclosure, amends, and sponsoring others.
My suggestion is that you do what Erik Weihenmayer did. Even when you can’t see the way ahead, keep climbing. Keep paddling. Never quit.
Recovery Step: Move forward by faith.
