Allow me to pay tribute to a great man today – on what would have been his 98th birthday.
He went by many titles throughout his life:
- World War II hero
- Businessman
- Entrepreneur
- Husband
- Father
- Patriot
But I had another title for him:
Dad taught me, more through his actions than his words, the value of character, honesty, sacrifice, and family. He taught me to honor God, to respect the flag, and to put others first.
I lost my Dad way too early, when I was just 19. The last time I saw him – eight days before he died – he put a power steering unit in my car. He never quit giving, loving, and making me proud to be his son.
Recovery Step: Ninety times, the Bible says to honor your parents. One of those times is among the Ten Commandments: “Honor your father and mother” (Exodus 20:12). I encourage you to honor your father today, whether he is still with us or not.
