I have a theory. When you put recovery ahead of God, you find neither. But when you put God ahead of recovery, you find both.
That is because all recovery is spiritual recovery.
Henry Ward Beecher said it well: “Heaven will be inherited by every man who has heaven in his soul.”
Paul said it like this: “Keep seeking the things that are above” (Colossians 3:2).
Here are just a few ways to seek God:
- Daily prayer
- Daily Scripture reading
- Daily meditation
Recovery Step: Did you notice a trend in my list above? Daily. Like recovery work, connecting with God must be done daily. If you wait to connect with God on some special occasion, at a special time, you may be waiting for a while. Seek him daily.
