I have known and worked with hundreds of sex addicts. And each one shares the same thing in common – a desire to get well.
The problem is a disconnect between our will and an actual plan to make it happen.
Benjamin Franklin was determined to avoid that trap. Ben identified 13 virtues that he wanted to cultivate, and then he developed a tool to make each one measurable and maintainable.
Here’s my challenge. Take a few minutes to write down three or four goals for your sobriety. Then write down one tool for each goal that will make that goal measurable and maintainable. Then, “whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men” (Colossians 3:23).
Recovery Step: The desire to overcome is a good start. But it is only a start. Identify the tools that are needed to make it happen – and then go to work.
