For centuries, theologians have debated the importance of two competing forces – God’s sovereignty and man’s free will. Most of us fall on one side of that or the other. This isn’t the space to debate reformed theology (although I’m happy to have that discussion another time). But I think we can all agree on a couple of powerful verses.
Job 42:2 “I know that you can do everything, and that no purpose of yours can be withheld.”
1 Corinthians 15:24 “Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when he puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.”
The fact that you are reading this means that you have probably endured a significant dose of trauma or abuse. The light in the tunnel always seems to be attached to a train with your name on it. I understand the feeling. I lived in that tunnel for most of my life.
As I have weighed the two forces of God’s sovereignty and man’s free will, I have come to this conclusion:
Don’t measure the sovereignty of God by the state of the world.
Recovery Step: Digest six words – God is still on the throne.
