Slavery is still prevalent throughout the world. About 46 million people in 167 different countries are slaves.
In a spiritual sense, we are all slaves – to something or somebody. Freedom is simply the ability to decide whose slave you’re going to be.
Paul wrote to an entire church that had been set free. “But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life” (Romans 6:22).
Paul’s word choice is interesting here. He used one word, which was translated “become slaves.” That word is doulothentes. The word implies a choice. We have become slaves of God by choice.
Recovery Step: No one is going to force you into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Nor can anyone force you into a life of recovery. You are free – to choose whose slave you’re going to be.
