I have the same routine every morning. I step outside on my lanai, and a zillion ducks come rushing up from the pond out back, like a battalion of soldiers storming the beach at Normandy. They know what’s coming, because I’ve been doing the same thing, very consistently, for five years. I reach into my container of duck food and dig out a large scoop, which I then toss to the ducks. On most days, they get a second scoop. The ducks know my routine, and they trust that what I will toss them each day will be what they need.
But compared to God, my daily routine is erratic. He has cared for his creation with a consistency that stretches over thousands of years. The psalmist wrote, “All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time” (Psalm 104:27).
I love that verse!
The enemy wants you to walk in fear – that your needs won’t be met, or that you won’t be able to stay sober. God is the antidote to your fear.
Recovery Step: Exercises the same faith in God that my ducks have in me.
