We are walking on Someone else’s planet.
We would do well to understand this is God’s world, and every opportunity that is before us should be seen as an undeserved blessing. The Talmud says, “A man embezzles from God when he makes use of this world without uttering thanks.”
Robert Brault added, “Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were big things.”
Before you worry about attaining 25 years of sobriety, focus on the blessings and opportunities you have often taken for granted. In other words, start small.
Jesus illustrated this point with the analogy of a mustard seed: “It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches” (Matthew 13:22).
Recovery Step: Take a small step in the right direction today. And never forget on whose planet you are taking that step.
