Saving Private Ryan may be the greatest war movie ever produced. The film traces a mission to bring Private James Ryan home after his three brothers had all been killed in battle. Under the command of Captain Miller, a small group of soldiers went through hell to rescue Private Ryan. Most of the others, including Captain Miller, were killed in the process.
Decades later, an elderly James Ryan visited Captain Miller’s grave at the cemetery in Normandy. Standing over Miller’s grave, Ryan said, “I have tried to live my life the best I could. I hope that it was enough.”
Let those six words sink in – “I hope that it was enough.”
There is a way to know that what you have done was enough. You can’t go back and do anything about the past. But starting today, you can live a life of integrity. Solomon said, “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out” (Proverbs 10:9).
If you want to honor those who have helped you through the battle, that is exactly what you need to do. Live of life of integrity. That will be enough.
Recovery Step: Starting today, live a life that honors God.
