Linda was 65 when she suffered a serious heart attack and was rushed to the local hospital. Before surgery, she prayed that she would survive the surgery. God said, “Not only will you survive the surgery, I will give you 40 more years of good health.”
Sure enough, Linda came through the surgery well. Trusting God’s promise of another 40 years, she quickly scheduled a face lift and a tummy tuck, so she might look good in old age. A week after those procedures, she left the hospital, and walked into a busy street without looking. She was hit by a truck and died instantly.
Arriving in heaven, Linda asked God, “What happened? I thought you promised me 40 more years of life on earth. Why didn’t you watch after me?”
God said, “Sorry about that. I didn’t recognize you.”
Here’s the good news. No matter what you’ve done or how you’ve changed, God still recognizes you. When you have made a mess of things, God still knows you. And when you fall to the depths of addiction, you are never beyond the sight – or reach – of God.
Recovery Step: Embrace the One who still recognizes you, no matter what you’ve done wrong.
