In Fast and Furious, Dom said, “I live my life a quarter of a mile at a time.”
That’s a good way to live life, especially for a sex addict. I have seen so many get off the rails because they tried to find long-term sobriety in the short term.
Hear the words of Jesus: “Take no thought about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take thought about the things of itself. Sufficient to the day is the trouble thereof” (Matthew 6:34).
But let’s go back to Fast and Furious. How can you find sobriety a quarter of a mile at a time?
- Drive in your own lane.
- Don’t use your rear-view mirrors too much; look forward.
- Don’t worry about the next mile.
- Do one daily thing for your recovery.
Recovery Step: I recently read, “Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a blessing.” Recovery is a battle that can only be won one step, one day, and one quarter mile at a time. But first, you have to get started.
