I love this line from Max Lucado: “God has the final word in your life, and that word is grace.”
It was grace that found me in my darkest moment. It was grace that saved me from my sin – and from myself. It was grace that lit the road of recovery. And it is grace that gets me out of bed in the morning, keeps me on track during the day, and tucks me in at night.
Grace.
But there is another side to God’s character. It’s called justice. There comes a time when God leaves us to the consequences of our self-inflicted choices.
Many times, the people of Nineveh turned their backs on God. And repeatedly, God extended grace. One example was the preaching of Jonah. But when the people of Nineveh insisted on being the master of their fate and the captain of their soul, God said, “Okay.”
Specifically, God said to the unrepentant city, “Nothing can heal you; your wound is fatal” (Nahum 3:19).
Recovery Step: Surrender to God before your wound becomes fatal.
