Nothing matters more than the people you choose to spend time with. Author Jim Rohn said that we become the average of the five people we spend the most time with.
Solomon concluded, “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm” (Proverbs 13:20).
There are certain people you need to avoid:
- Canaanites: They were always intruding on what the Israelites had.
- Parasites: They will suck the life out of you.
- Termites: They chip away at the work others have done.
- Neophytes: Then think they know it all.
If you are to maintain your sobriety, spend time with others who have already done the same. If you want to expedite your recovery, use the flashlight of the Gospel to see the kryptonite of temptation; ask God to provide oversight of what you do, and your recovery will be watertight, but it won’t happen overnight.
Recovery Step: Pick five good friends, and your recovery will be dynamite.
