“Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples” (Psalm 105:1).
When the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock in 1620, they faced harsh conditions. When they became desperate for food, Governor William Bradford rationed five grains of corn a day to each person. When things got better, Bradford did not want the people to forget what they had gone through, so at every Thanksgiving meal, he had five grains of corn placed at each plate.
Gratitude is a great reminder of God’s goodness.
Today, many of us celebrate Thanksgiving. It comes along on the fourth Thursday of every November in America. We acknowledge this special day with Turkey and football.
And thanksgiving.
Recovery Step: Take time today to celebrate your five grains of corn. Let those grains each represent a separate area of thanksgiving. I thank God for these five grains of corn this year: my family (especially my new grandchild), my recovery, my health, my ministry, and my Savior. What are your five grains of corn?
