When the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock in 1620, they were faced with harsh conditions. When they became desperate for food, Governor William Bradford rationed five grains of corn per day for each person. When things got better, Bradford did not want the people to forget what they had gone through, so at every Thanksgiving meal he had five grains of corn placed at each plate.
The value of gratitude cannot be overstated; it is the great reminder of God’s goodness.
We all need grains of gratitude, reminders that God’s providence from yesterday points toward his sufficiency for tomorrow.
Paul said it quite simply: “In everything give thanks” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
Recovery Step: You have two options. You can complain about your problems or you can celebrate your blessings. Only one can help you find recovery.
