In late December, we celebrate the biggest holiday of the year. Today’s the day – National Flashlight Day. Because December 21 is the day of winter solstice, making this the day with the least sunshine, this date has been forever immortalized.
It is for today that David Misell was born.
On January 10, 1899, the British inventor obtained U.S. Patent No. 617,592, assigned to American Electrical Novelty and Manufacturing Company. With that patent, Misell designed an electric device, powered by “D” batteries laid front to back in a paper tube with the light bulb and a rough brass reflector at the end.
With that, the flashlight was born.
The world needs light. And your world needs you. We live in a dark world today. But we are promised, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5).
Recovery Step: Jesus is the Light of the world. And he can shine that light through you – if you let him.
