It happened on July 21, 1969. That would be 55 years ago today.
On this date in history, Neil Armstrong became the first human being to step onto the moon.
But something else happened that same day, just a few hours later. Gaylord Perry hit a home run.
What makes that special? In 1963, the great pitcher/poor hitter was asked if he’d ever hit a home run. He responded, “The day they put a man on the moon will be the day I hit a home run.” Sure enough, that’s what happened 55 years ago.
True to his word, on the day that Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon, Gaylord Perry hit the first home run of his career. He never did it again.
Gaylord Perry had a vision. And that vision became reality. Vision isn’t everything, but it’s a great start. “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18).
Recovery Step: Ask God for a fresh vision of what your life can be if lived in sobriety.
